Consultation & Supervision

EMDR steps

I am an EMDR consultant, dedicated to supporting other therapists in developing their skills and confidence in EMDR Therapy. As an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant, I have extensive experience guiding clinicians in mastering both the foundational and advanced concepts of EMDR and its clinical application. I provide consultation for therapists who wish to strengthen their EMDR practice, pursue EMDR certification, or advance toward becoming EMDR consultants themselves.

Understanding EMDR Consultation and Credentialing

EMDRIA (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association) is the credentialing body that oversees EMDR Therapy standards and certification. Its hierarchy of credentials includes the following stages:

EMDR Basic Training

EMDR 01

After completing the 40 hours of Basic Training, trainees are required to participate in 10 hours of group consultation before earning their EMDR Basic Training Certificate.

Consultation provides a structured and supportive environment where trainees integrate EMDR therapy with practical skill development. Through this process, consultees receive individualized feedback and guidance in essential areas such as case conceptualization, patient readiness, target selection, treatment planning, and the application of EMDR therapy within clinical practice.

Unlike the practicum component of Basic Training, EMDR consultation centers on real clinical cases, enabling therapists to apply EMDR principles in their ongoing work. This stage deepens clinical understanding, reinforces adherence to EMDR standards, and helps prevent the development of ineffective habits. It also encourages therapists to integrate EMDR with their existing therapeutic approaches in a creative and ethical manner, enhancing both clinical effectiveness and the ability to help a broader range of patients achieve meaningful change.

EMDR Certification

EMDR 02

Once Basic Training is completed, therapists may pursue EMDR Certification, the next professional credential.

To become an EMDR-Certified Therapist, EMDRIA requires:

  • 20 hours of consultation with an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant.

  • At least 10 hours must be individual consultation focused on EMDR casework.

  • The remaining 10 hours may be completed in small group consultation.

  • A minimum of 50 EMDR Therapy sessions with at least 25 different patients.

Consultation provides a supportive and structured environment to deepen understanding of EMDR’s clinical principles, enhance case conceptualization, and refine treatment integration.

EMDR 03

EMDR Consultant in Training (CIT) and Approved Consultant

To become an EMDR-Approved Consultant, a certified therapist must complete an additional 20 hours of consultation while functioning as a Consultant in Training (CIT).

During this process, an EMDR-Approved Consultant provides consultation to the CIT, ensuring competence in the consultant role, ethical practice, and the ability to guide other clinicians effectively.

Consultation Philosophy

My consultation style is grounded in presence, clinical precision, and an integrative understanding of trauma healing. I strive to provide a safe and collaborative learning environment where consultees can:

  • Develop clinical confidence and skillful application of EMDR.

  • Expand their use of EMDR in creative and effective ways.

  • Integrate mind, body, and cultural principles into their therapeutic practice.

My approach encourages both professional growth and a deeper appreciation of EMDR as a transformative method for healing and human connection.
