EMDR Consultant

Dr. Perez is an EMDR consultant. EMDR consultants demonstrate significant experience and proficiency in guiding other therapists in mastering basic and advanced EMDR’s concepts and implementation. Dr. Perez provides consultation for therapists interested in developing their EMDR Therapy skills, becoming an EMDR certified therapist, and EMDR consultant.

EMDRIA, the credentialing organization of EMDR Therapy, has a hierarchy of credentialing. The first type of consultation occurs after the trainee completes the 40 hours of Basic Training. This training includes a requirement of 10 group consultation hours before earning their EMDR Basic Training Certificate.

After completing all the requirements for EMDR Therapy’s Basic Training, trainees often want to become certified in EMDR Therapy, which is the next credential a trainee can earn. Twenty hours of consultation are required to become an EMDR certified therapist. At least 10 hours must be obtained through individual consultation, EMDR-focused consultation. The remaining 10 hours can be obtained through small group consultation. The 20 hours can be obtained individually with an approved consultant. The consultee has a minimum requirement of doing 50 EMDR Therapy sessions with a minimum of 25 different patients.

To become an EMDR approved consultant, it is required to obtain the same 20 hours format, but the already EMDR certified therapist must function as a consultant in training. The consultant of the consultant in training will monitor how the consultant in training is performing as a consultant.
